Opening Ceremony

On 9 July 2007, 31 Master Trainers for ELTIS commenced a 20-week Cambridge ESOL ICELT (In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching) and Training of Trainers course at IALF Bali. This training course will enable ELTIS to develop a dynamic and committed team of trainers with a shared vision working together to achieve ELTIS’s goal of improving the English language ability of girls and boys in Madrasah Tsanawiyah through developing the language and teaching capabilities of English teachers. Robert Kingham, the Director of LAPIS attended the Opening Ceremony and gave some words of support to the course participants.

The 31 trainers are from a range of Islamic schools and tertiary institutions in East Java, NTB and South Sulawesi. During their time at the IALF, they will be able to observe and experience communicative English language teaching in action, including the opportunity to liaise with and observe a large team of international and Indonesian English language teachers at the centre. As part of their course, they will develop the curriculum, course materials and home study modules for the ELTIS activities.

When they have completed their course they will deliver English language upgrading and communicative English language teacher training courses to MTs teachers in East Java, NTB and Bone Regency in South Sulawesi.

We wish them every success with their studies!
