ELTIS Inaugural Steering Committee

On Tuesday 14 August 2007, ELTIS held its first Steering Committee Meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Surabaya. The meeting was attended by the Director of Madrasah Education, MORA, Drs. H.Firdaus, MPd and the Director of the Centre for Quality Improvement and Empowerment of Teachers and Educators, MONE, Dr M. Hatta, as well as senior academic staff from ELTIS’s partner institutions.

The ELTIS Steering Committee members hold an advisory role, sharing expertise and working towards common objectives. Specifically their role is to:

  • monitor ELTIS planning and implementation
  • provide ongoing feedback and guidance on ELTIS implementation
  • provide advice on emerging issues relevant to ELTIS work
  • provide suggestions for incorporation into the ELTIS Annual Implementation Plan

At the first meeting, Caroline Bentley, the ELTIS Team Leader gave an overview to ELTIS and reported to the committee on the progress during the ELTIS Inception phase. This was followed by a presentation by the ELTIS M&E Adviser, Jeff Bost, on ELTIS approaches to Performance Monitoring.

In the afternoon session, the members formmed discussion groups and examined some of the perceived risks emerging from the ELTIS Risk Monitoring Matrix. In addition, they gave feedback on ELTIS Programs and made some valuable suggestions for future directions.

The next Steering Committee Meeting is scheduled for early December 2007 and will be held at the ELTIS regional Office in Denpasar. This will allow the members to meet and hear feedback from the ELTIS Training Team during the last phase of their Training of Trainers course.
