Members of ELTIS Steering Committee met for the third time on Friday 16 May in Senggigi, Lombok. A few new faces joined the meeting, included Prof. Dr. Machasin, the new Director General of Islamic Higher Education (DIKTIS), and Mr. Subiyantoro, the ELTIS Management Information Systems (MIS) Officer. Also attending for the first time were Ms. Rahma Sari (Ana) and Ms. Jeanette Lindsey Clark, ELTIS Curriculum & Materials Advisers.
Caroline Bentley, ELTIS Team Leader brought the committee up to date with an ELTIS progress report, covering the period since the last meeting — December 2007 — April 2008, as well as the planned Future Directions for ELTIS. Zuliati Rohmah and Muhsinin, ELTIS Regional Coordinators for East Java and NTB also reported on the training course progress at their respective centres.

Mr Jeff Bost, ELTIS M&E Adviser and Mr. Subiyantoro then provided a Monitoring & Evaluation Update and reported back on a recent ELTIS Self-Evaluation Study conducted among the first cohort of Master Trainers, a selection of beneficiary MTs teachers and their School Principals. The draft ELTIS Disengagement (Exit) strategy was also presented for discussion and feedback.

After lunch, Prof. Andi Sarjan, Rector of STAIN Watampone and Robert Kennedy, LAPIS General Manager signed the Memorandum of Understanding, as STAIN Watampone will become ELTIS's third Tertiary Institution partner in Phase 2 of ELTIS implementation.

Copies of the Cambridge ESOL ICELT (In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching) for the first cohort of Master Trainers were presented to the Steering Committee representatives from MAPENDA, DIKTIS and MONE.

To conclude the meeting, the two ELTIS Curriculum & Materials Advisers, Ms. Rahma Sari (Ana) and Ms. Jeanette Lindsey Clark, presented their findings from research conducted into the current state of English Language Teaching Materials in Madrasah Tsanawiyah. In addition, they presented the proposed MTs English language teaching materials teaching materials consisting of four Resource Packs to the ELTIS Steering Committee for feedback and suggestions.

These materials will be developed and trialled over the next 18 months, then distributed to each ELTIS beneficiary MTs teacher/school, as well as made available on the ELTIS website.
